This tool helps you calculate the inductance of a self-made air-core coil based on its physical dimensions and number of turns. It's fast, accurate, and easy to use!
How to Use
Coil Diameter — Outer diameter of the coil (distance across the winding)
Coil Length — Total length of the coil along its axis
Number of Turns — Total number of windings
(Optional) Wire Ω/m - Resistance of the wire used, per meter
(optional) Frequency — Operating frequency for Q-factor calculation
Then tap the Calculate button to get the results.
Result
The app will display the following:
Inductance (L) — Calculated inductance of the coil in appropriate units (pH to GH)
Inductor Q (if frequency is provided) — Quality factor at the specified frequency
Wire Length — Total length of wire required for the coil
Wire Resistance (if Ω/m is provided) — Total DC resistance of the wire used
Buttons
Calculate — Run the coil parameter calculations.
Clear All — Clears all input fields. Note: The latest values remain in memory and can still be shared until the app is closed or memory runs low.
Share — Share the current input/output results via supported share options.
Units Supported
The following inputs support unit selection using standard SI prefixes:
Inductance: pH, nH, µH, mH, H, kH, MH, GH
Resistance: pΩ, nΩ, µΩ, mΩ, Ω, kΩ, MΩ, GΩ
Frequency: Hz, kHz, MHz, GHz
Distance: µm, mm, cm, m, km
All unit pickers use appropriate SI scaling to simplify input and improve readability.
Troubleshooting
Ensure all required fields contain valid numeric values.
If Q-factor or wire resistance is not shown, make sure the optional inputs are filled in.
Check that units match the physical quantities (e.g., don’t enter “cm” for resistance).
Compatibility (version 1.0.6)
InductorCalc supports iOS 11.0 and later (including dark mode fixes in iOS 15+), and runs on iPhone and iPad.
